February 25, 2025 – In a long-awaited move, RadioID has officially revised its ID allocation policy, allowing users to obtain more than two IDs per account. This decision marks a major shift after years of restrictions that left many radio enthusiasts frustrated, particularly those operating both DMR and TETRA radios under the same network.
For years, users struggled with the limitation of only two IDs per individual, leading to operational difficulties in networks requiring multiple IDs for different devices. The lack of standardization for TETRA IDs further compounded the problem. Now, this long-standing issue has been addressed with a more flexible allocation system.
New ID Policy and Its Conditions
While RadioID now permits multiple IDs, there are several guidelines in place to maintain order and prevent misuse:
- Justification Required – Users requesting additional IDs must provide valid reasons to ensure that the system is not exploited. As Glen (VE9GLN) explained, “Dude with 10 Baofengs doesn’t need an ID for each one for personal use.”
- Yearly Account Validation – To keep the database organized, RadioID will introduce an annual account validation process. Accounts that fail to validate within a reasonable timeframe will have their IDs marked as deleted.
- Stricter Validation for 3+ IDs – Users holding three or more IDs will be required to validate each ID separately, aiming to reclaim unused or abandoned identifiers efficiently.
Implementation and Support
The validation process will be tied to the account’s creation anniversary, ensuring a structured and predictable approach. Users encountering difficulties are encouraged to contact RadioID support through the official website or seek assistance from available admins in community channels.
This policy shift represents a significant victory for the radio community, particularly for operators managing multiple devices across different technologies. While the new system introduces accountability measures, it finally provides a solution for users who have long advocated for a more practical ID allocation method.
Full Glen’s (VE9GLN) statement:
“Hello All,
RadioID has made a change to it’s ID policy, We will now issue multiple IDs. However there is a small caveat.
1.) We are still going to ask you why you want additional IDs, We still want to ensure extra IDs are not being abused. Dude with 10 Baofengs doesn’t need an ID for each one for personal use.
2.) As part of trying to keep the ID space clean and tidy, We will be implementing a yearly account validation policy. Unvalidated accounts, and their IDs will be marked as deleted if we can not contact you after a reasonable time period.
3.) Accounts with 3+ IDs will need to validate the Account *and* each ID seperatly, This is in a hope to reclaim unused IDs as easily as possible.
Account validations will happen on the anniversary creation date of your account on RadioID, once we roll this out.
Should you run into any problems, please reach out to RadioID Support via the website. There are also several of our admins in this channel who should be able to work with you as well. I have too many irons in the fire and I will be leaving this channel shortly, sorry but I just don’t need the extra noise in my life of monitoring this channel. I also don’t have a Tetra radio
I hope this is a satisfactory solutuion for everyone.
Thanks
Glen (VE9GLN)”
