Preliminary Steps
1. Read and Save Data:
– Use the Depot software to read and save the data from your MTM5200.
– Save the full flash image of your device.
– Export and save the sensitive tuning values from the device.

 Variant 1: Flashing Method

2. Prepare for Flashing:
– Disconnect the power from the MTM5200.
– Connect +12V from the same power supply as the radio to pin 6 on the accessory connector (the flash pin) using a programming lead.

3. Start CPS+ Depot:
– Open CPS+ Depot software.
– Select “FREON UART HOST” and “Custom secure”.
– Under the AIS file, select the the right Factory Upstart Kernel bin file for the upgrade.

4. Flash the Radio:
– Do not click “Wait for bootme”.
– Click “START”.
– As soon as you click “START”, immediately apply power to the radio.
– Timing is crucial: the radio should scroll messages in the window and then say “DONE”. If not, repeat the procedure.

5. Write Codeplug and Firmware:
– Detect the radio on the RS232 port.
– Write the entire codeplug to the radio.
– Write the appropriate firmware to the radio.

 Variant 2: Codeplug Method

6. Read and Export Data:
– Read the radio’s codeplug (CP) using the Depot software.
– Export the sensitive data from the CP.

7. Create New Codeplug:
– Create a new CP with the MTM5400 definition that matches the current firmware in the radio.

8. Import and Write Data:
– Import the previously exported sensitive data into the new CP.
– Force-write the new CP to the radio.

Final Steps
9. Verification:
– Verify that the conversion was successful by checking the device’s functionality.
– Ensure all features of the MTM5400 are operational.

Important Notes
– Backup: Always keep a backup of your original data and flash image in case you need to revert changes.
– Sensitive Data: Ensure that sensitive tuning values are correctly exported and imported to avoid the need for expensive retuning equipment.
– Timing:** The flashing process requires precise timing; multiple attempts may be necessary.
– Instructions: Follow each step carefully to avoid damaging your device.

By following these steps, you can successfully convert your Motorola MTM5200 to an MTM5400, unlocking advanced features and capabilities.
